Breast Reduction for Men (gynecomastia)
What is gynecomastia? Gynecomastia is a condition of over-developed or enlarged breasts in men, and is common in men of any age, it typically appears in adolescence and persists or enlarges with age. It can be the result of hormonal changes, disease or the use of certain drugs.
Gynecomastia can cause emotional discomfort and impair your self confidence. Many sufferers report wearing thick layered clothing even in summer and may even avoid certain physical activities and intimacy simply to hide their condition
Gynecomastia is characterised by:
- Excess glandular tissue development
- A combination of both excess fat and glandular tissue
- Gynecomastia may be present unilaterally (one breast) or bilaterally (both breasts)
Who would be suitable for breast reduction / gynecomastia surgery? Gynecomastia surgery is an individualised procedure and often combines gland excision done through a very limited incision and liposuction.
This procedure is a good option for you if:
- You are physically healthy and of relatively normal weight
- You are bothered by the feeling that your breasts are too large
